News, Publications and Consultations from the Past Week

News for CW 24, CW 25 and CW 26 (08/06/2026 – 28/06/2026)

Strategic partnership: The EU and Kenya are strengthening their strategic partnership in the areas of trade, digital transformation and sustainable investment. Under the “Global Gateway” initiative, investment will be made, amongst other things, in the expansion of high-speed connections to more than 3,000 public institutions, schools, health centres and digital innovation centres.

AI: The European Commission has published the final Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content.

Cybersecurity: From 10/06/2026 – 11/06/2026, around 5,000 experts took part in the EU-wide cyber exercise “Cyber Europe 2026”. The EU Cyber Blueprint, which sets out roles and responsibilities, was also tested for the first time during this exercise.

Digital Partnership: The EU and Brazil have signed a digital partnership which will strengthen cooperation in areas including data governance, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and connectivity, online platforms, and digital public goods and services. In this context, the parties also signed an administrative agreement focusing on the protection of minors on the Internet.

Cybersecurity: The Council of the European Union has approved Ukraine’s admission to the EU Cybersecurity Reserve. Ukraine can now draw on EU emergency support in the event of large-scale cybersecurity incidents.

Protection of Minors in the Media: The Special Committee on Children’s Online Safety met for the third and final time on 16/06/2026. On 13/07/2026, the committee’s two chairs will present their recommendations to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Video games: Following the “Stop Destroying Videogames” citizens’ initiative, the European Commission will engage with consumers and video game publishers.

Digital: The European Commission has published its fourth report on the state of the Digital Decade. This shows that progress has been made towards achieving the digital transformation targets by 2030. However, structural gaps still need to be closed.

Submarine cables: The European Commission is providing EUR 5.8 million to set up the first two regional cable centres in the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean. It has also published a call for tenders worth EUR 40 million to increase capacity for the repair of submarine communication cables.

Cloud computing: The European Commission has reached a preliminary assessment that Amazon and Microsoft, with their market-leading cloud services Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, should be classified as gatekeepers within the meaning of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), even though they do not meet the quantitative thresholds.
