Modern fire protection contributes to sustainability, says Anne Omar, data centre expert at FOGTEC, in an eco member interview:
Ms Omar, could you please give us a brief introduction to your company, FOGTEC?
FOGTEC is specialised in active firefighting systems based on high-pressure water mist. With locations in Cologne, Mumbai and Shanghai and over 45 system partners worldwide, the systems are planned and installed all over the world . They are used in data centres and energy storage systems, but also in industrial plants, public buildings, and in rail transport and tunnel systems.
Which digitalisation topics are particularly important to you?
As a system manufacturer, we have been advancing the digitalisation of our internal processes for many years. With regard to our stationary systems, we are paying particular attention to topics such as automation, AI and predictive maintenance.
What are the particular challenges in your industry at the moment and how are you addressing them?
We see more of the challenges faced by our customers, who are increasingly having to deal with issues such as sustainability, CO₂ emissions, resource conservation, flexibility and legal environmental regulations. Our systems provide a way for fire protection within the technical building equipment to contribute to these current challenges.
How do you expect your membership in the eco Association to support you in this regard?
The eco Association represents the German digital industry and offers a profound and unique network. As a member, we would like to make our many years of expertise in the field of fire protection available and highlight modern possibilities in this area. Simultaneously, we expect to gain a better overview of current developments and trends in digital infrastructure and its physical security.
What opportunities does digitalisation offer us in the future?
Digitalisation is a helpful asset for saving resources and improving the environmental balance and efficiency across the entire value chain. As part of this, AI is also noteworthy, and is likely to significantly amplify this trend. The challenge is to build up the expertise at the same speed in order to optimally leverage it.
