- 35.5% of Germans wish for better mobile Internet when travelling by train.
- eco’s Managing Director Alexander Rabe: “A good network coverage with the most modern mobile networks of the latest generation is essential for a strong business location.”
Summer holidays are now starting in many federal states in Germany. Many people depend on a functioning mobile Internet, especially when travelling. However, a recent survey by the eco – Association of the Internet Industry shows that many people in Germany are still dissatisfied with the digital infrastructure. This is particularly true for train journrys, where one in three (35.5%) say they would like better mobile Internet. This need is particularly great among younger age groups: In the 18-29 age group, 58.8% say they are dissatisfied with the Internet on train journeys.
Many Germans would also like better online connections when travelling by car (29.9%) and on hikes (27.8%). Even in hotels, one in four (24 %) is currently not satisfied with the Internet connection and would like to see improvements. A total of 66.1% of Germans named places or situations where they would like to have better mobile Internet while on holiday.
“A good network coverage with the most modern mobile networks of the latest generation is essential for digital transformation – both in the private sector as well as in the economy and public administrations. In order for Germany and Europe to successfully overcome the global and ecological challenges of the coming decades with the help of digitalisation, we need high-performance digital infrastructures that are available across the board,” says eco’s Managing Director Alexander Rabe. “In addition to modern telecommunications networks, a functioning ecosystem of digital infrastructures also includes data centres, colocation providers, content delivery networks and cloud infrastructures as well as reliable and high-performance Internet exchange points. These form the backbone and foundation of digitalisation.”
