eco Strengthens International Engagement

  • eco creates department for coordination of international activities
  • Lars Steffen appointed Director of eco International
  • eco becoming more active on the international stage

The eco Association has named international expansion of its activities as one of its strategic directions for the coming years. This decision accords due recognition to the ever-increasing number of international members within the association, and reflects the borderless nature of the Internet.

eco creates department for coordination of international activities

eco has long been active in the area of international relations; however, this has been taken one step further in 2018, through formalizing eco’s commitment in the international arena and creating a new eco International department to coordinate international activities. Providing more relevant information and services to eco’s international membership is the department’s goal for 2018.

Lars Steffen appointed Director of eco International

The eco International team has been strengthened by the appointment of Lars Steffen as Director of eco International.

At eco, Steffen is responsible for international eco membership, as well as membership from the domain name industry and the blockchain community. He further represents the industry as Community Outreach Co-Coordinator of the Universal Acceptance Steering Group at ICANN, where he facilitates the support of internationalized domain names and email address internationalization.

As Director of International, Lars Steffen’s role will be to ensure an efficient coordination of the activities by eco – Association of the Internet Industry, aimed at an increased engagement with eco´s international membership. This includes:

  • Being involved in international decision-making bodies to represent the members’ interests,
  • organizing opportunities to network amongst the community,
  • providing relevant content and services, and
  • having an open ear for the needs of all our members who are not based in Germany.

eco becoming more active on the international stage

Although eco is based in Germany and has German roots, the over 1,000 members that eco is uniting today tells a different story: 50% of eco’s members are not German, or are not based in Germany. According to Lars Steffen, “The Internet is a global and borderless network – which is why Europe’s leading association of the Internet industry also needs to think and act globally, like its members.”
