DMA – COMMISSION DESIGNATES GATEKEEPERS: On 6 September the European Commission designated six “gatekeepers” under the Digital Markets Act for the first time: Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta and Microsoft. The companies now have 6 months to ensure that their main platform services comply with the DMA regulations. (Press release COM)
DIGITAL EURO – MEPs ARE SCEPTICAL: MEPs from the EPP, S&D and ECR groups questioned ECB Director Fabio Panetta on the added value of a single digital currency in the Economic Affairs Committee on 4th September. This follows the leak of a Commission proposal for a Digital Euro Regulation from June 2023. (See Euractive)
