DMA: On Wednesday 17 July 2024, the ECJ confirmed its decision to designate Byte-dance as a gatekeeper under the DMA. The judgement was issued eight months after TikTok’s parent company Bytedance filed an application for annulment. (ECJ)
Commission Presidency: Last Thursday, Ursula von der Leyen presented her plans for a second term as President of the European Commission. She is focussing on increased enforcement of the DSA and the DMA. Within the first 100 days, she also plans to launch an initiative for AI factories to improve access to AI computers and will propose a comprehensive AI strategy and the establishment of an AI Research Council to promote new applications in industry and public services.
