News CW 23 (03.06.2024-09.06.2024)
Europe has voted: In the European elections held from 6 to 9 June 2024, a shift to the right is emerging. According to projections in Germany, while the CDU/CSU is expected to gain the largest share of the vote, entailing 30%, the AfD is likely to be the second strongest party, polling 16.2%. The governing parties SPD (14%), Greens (12%) and FDP (5%) suffered considerable losses in some areas. The newly formed left-wing Structured Securities Association (BSW) achieved 6.5% of the vote. In France, a victory for the far-right RN is emerging with 31.5% of the votes. Emmanuel Macron’s ruling party Rennaissance is coming in second with 15.2%. In Spain, the Partido Popular (Christian Democratic) obtained the highest score (32.3%), ahead of the social democratic Partido Socia-lista Obrero Español (30.2%). In the Netherlands and Austria, according to the latest polls, the parties on the far right performed the strongest.
