Ecodesign: The Council adopted the trilogue agreement on the Ecodesign Regulation on 27 May. The Council and Parliament reached an agreement in the third trilogue on 12 December 2023. The final text will now be signed and published in the Official Journal. The new rules will be directly applicable in all Member States. (Council)
CSAM: In a new compromise text of the draft law on online child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of 28 May, audio communication is excluded from the scope of application. The draft aims to find a new balance between encryption and combating CSAM. (euractiv)
E-commerce: On 30 May, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled in favour of Google, Amazon and Airbnb in a legal dispute against the Italian communications authority’s demand for the disclosure of company data. The ECJ thus confirmed the country of origin principle, according to which a company based in a neighbouring EU country can offer services throughout the EU, but is only bound by the legislation of the Member State in which it has its headquarters.
