News, Publications and Consultations from the Past Week

News CW 13 (25.03.2024-31.03.2024)

Digital markets: The European Commission announced on 25 March that it is opening non-compliance investigations into Alphabet, Apple and Meta under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The Commission has concerns that the measures taken by the companies to date fall short of effective compliance with so-called “gatekeepers”. The intention is to conclude these proceedings within 12 months. (Euractiv, Commission)

Digital identities: The Council adopted the amended eIDAS Regulation on 26 March. Among other aspects, the regulation creates a legal framework for an EU Digital ID wallet. The Parliament already approved the agreement reached in November on 29 February. The revised regulation will be published in the EU’s Official Journal in the coming weeks and will enter into force 20 days after its publication. The regulation will be fully implemented by 2026.
