News, Publications and Consultations from the Past Week
News CW 12 (18.03.2024-24.03.2024)
Digital Services Act (DSA): On 21 March, the German Bundestag adopted a regulation on the Single Market for digital services and the promotion of fairness and transparency for commercial users of online intermediation services. The German federal government has thus implemented the European Digital Services Act (DSA). (Euractiv)
Artificial intelligence: On 20 March, the Industry Committee in the European Parliament voted in favour of making it easier for small companies and start-ups to access supercomputers for artificial intelligence (AI) and strengthening environmental standards for such infrastructures. The full amendments can be found here. (Euractiv)
Online identities: The European Court of Justice ruled on 21 March that an EU law passed in 2019 requiring EU citizens to provide fingerprints on their national ID cards is not legal. (Euractiv)
Child protection online: A new approach by the Belgian EU Presidency to draft legislation on the detection and removal of child sexual abuse material on the Internet focuses on the tasks of the coordinating authority, such as risk categorisation or detection mandates. The so-called CSAM Regulation is stuck in the legislative process, as EU Member States cannot agree on which rules protect children and at the same time do not lead to far-reaching restrictions on the privacy of all citizens online. (Euractiv)
