Youth protection: The European Parliament has called on the European Commission for stronger efforts against cyberbullying. A new strategy is intended to protect young people from harmful content online and to provide stronger support for relevant counselling centres. European Media Freedom Act: The European Media Freedom Act has been adopted in Parliament. In the future, new rules will apply to platforms who would like to restrict the range of media or take down content.
New EU Commissioners: After several hearings last week, the European Parliament is now set to elect Wopke Hoekstra and Maros Sefcovic as EU Commissioners. These positions became vacant after the previous officeholders changed roles. Wopke Hoekstra is set to take over the climate portfolio, while Maros Sefcovic is due to advance the European Green Deal as Commission Vice-President. You can read the hearings here.
