News, Publications and Consultations from the Past Week

News for CW 27 (29/06/2026 – 05/07/2026)

DSA: The European Board for Digital Services, in cooperation with the European Commission, has published its second report on the most significant and recurring systemic risks.

Cybersecurity: The European Commission, together with the participating Member States, has launched the Cybersecurity Skills Coalition European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (CSC-EDIC). The founding members are Greece, Cyprus, Austria, Croatia and Slovenia; the Czech Republic and Poland have joined as observers. CSC-EDIC aims to promote the implementation of the Cybersecurity Skills Academy, among other things, through bespoke training programmes.

EU Council of Ministers: Ireland took over the Council Presidency on 01/07/2026. Among the key issues that the Irish Presidency will address are, for example, the expansion of the domestic technology sector, restrictions on the use of social media, the establishment of companies at EU level, and the protection of critical infrastructure.

Chat monitoring: This week, the European Parliament could once again vote on an exemption from the e-Privacy Directive allowing for voluntary chat monitoring. As the European Parliament had voted against extending the transitional arrangement at the end of March, it expired at the beginning of April.

Transatlantic relations: Relations between the EU and the US remain strained despite talks about a potential future dialogue. US President Donald Trump had threatened to impose new tariffs on EU countries that levy taxes on digital services provided by American technology companies. A spokesperson for the European Commission announced that the EU would respond swiftly and decisively should this happen.

Data protection: The US Supreme Court has ruled that US President Donald Trump is permitted to dismiss members of independent public authorities. This raises doubts about the independent oversight required for the Data Privacy Framework.
