Roaming: The European Commission has proposed extending the EU roaming area to the Western Balkans. Before the European Commission can begin negotiations on bilateral agreements with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, the Council must first give its approval.
Social media: The Greek government is preparing a plan to introduce a ban for children under the age of 15. To this end, an existing parental-control app – originally developed to block minors from buying tobacco and alcohol – is to be used for this purpose.
AI: A spokesperson for the European Commission has confirmed that the publication of the guidelines for high-risk AI systems will be delayed once again.
AI: In a joint statement on AI-generated imagery and the protection of privacy, 61 data protection authorities warn of the risks of deepfakes.
Industrial AI applications: Euractiv reports on efforts to simplify the rules for industrial AI applications.
Age verification: In an open letter, 371 security and privacy scientists warn of the risks of age checks. They call for a moratorium on deployment plans until the scientific consensus on the benefits, risks and technical feasibility has been reached.
