Max Röttgermann Takes Over Leadership of the eco Security Competence Group

The Security Competence Group of eco – Association of the Internet Industry is undergoing a change in leadership: Max Röttgermann from Deutsche Telekom is taking over as head of the group, succeeding Oliver Dehning, who has played a key role in shaping the group since 2014.

Röttgermann brings extensive expertise in network security

With Max Röttgermann, eco gains a recognised expert in network security and cyber defence. In his role as Senior Product Manager for IP Transit and DDoS Defence at Deutsche Telekom, he has been responsible for the portfolio of network-based protection against DDoS attacks for many years. His career within the group spans more than two decades and ranges from operational roles in technical environments to strategic responsibilities in product management. His focus lies particularly on securing backbone infrastructures and the further development of security solutions in the context of global networks.

Beyond his work within the company, Röttgermann is also active across the wider industry: he participates in international specialist conferences, is involved in European research projects on the future of network infrastructure, and regularly contributes his expertise to professional discourse.

Group Leadership: Focus on cyber resilience and the development of concrete outcomes

In his new role at eco, Röttgermann will lead the Competence Group together with Olaf Pursche. The work centres on pooling specialist knowledge, analysing current developments, and producing tangible outputs such as guidelines, white papers and position papers on regulatory issues. A current key focus is on the topic of cyber resilience as well as secure and high-performance Internet and cloud infrastructures for companies.

The leadership role within the Competence Group is understood less as a traditional management function and more as a coordinating and facilitating task: the aim is to bring together the diverse perspectives of the members and derive practical insights for business, policymakers and the public.

Farewell to Oliver Dehnung

At the same time, eco bids farewell to a long-standing and influential figure: Oliver Dehning has led the Security Competence Group with great dedication for over a decade. During this time, he advanced key IT security issues within the Association, strengthened professional exchange and made important contributions to raising awareness of cyber risks. His commitment has left a sustainable impact on the work of the Competence Group.

With this change of leadership, eco is focusing equally on continuity and further development: the Security Competence Group remains a key forum for discussion on current cybersecurity challenges – now under new leadership and with a clear focus on the future of digital resilience.
