As part of its AI Continent Action Plan, the EU is pushing ahead with the expansion of AI. A key element of this is the planned Code of Practice for General Purpose AI (GPAI) – a voluntary set of rules for implementing the EU AI Act.
A broad alliance of European digital and industry associations is now calling for the current draft to be significantly simplified. Too many provisions are unnecessarily complex, legally excessive or difficult to implement – for example, obligations for external audits, extensive documentation requirements and unclear consequences for downstream providers.
“The Code can be an important tool for legal clarity and trust – if it remains practical, understandable and in line with the AI Act,” the joint appeal states.
The full statement by the associations – including EuroISPA, the European umbrella organisation for Internet service providers – is available here.
