eco Signs Joint Industry Statement on Data Usage in AI Development

At the hearing of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) on the topic of data processing in the development of AI, eco, together with other industry associations, signed a Joint Statement.

The signatory associations welcome the EDPB’s initiative in organising a stakeholder event to obtain feedback for its announced position paper. Nevertheless, the industry associations call on the EDPB to ensure a clear, uniform and, above all, a pragmatic approach in reconciling the development of AI and data protection.

The key issue here is to enable the development and deployment of AI “made in Europe” while respecting Europe’s high privacy standards. It is precisely this interplay between AI and the GDPR that is leading to uncertainties on the part of developers. This concern was already highlighted in the Draghi Report on the competitiveness of the European Union (EU), published in September.

The EDPB Opinion is therefore crucial for determining how effectively Europe harness the full potential of AI while ensuring the availability of AI that reflects European values. You can find the full Joint Statement here.
