Together with 192 other organisations, including Mozilla, Proton, WhatsApp and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), eco – Association of the Internet Industry has signed an open letter to the British Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper. The letter calls on the UK Home Office to rescind its demand that Apple creates a backdoor into its end-to-end encrypted services.
This demand jeopardises the security and privacy of millions of users worldwide, undermines the technology sector and sets a dangerous precedent for global cybersecurity. Strong encryption not only protects personal data, but is also essential for the digital economy and national security.
A government-mandated access requirement would severely damage trust in digital services.
Further information and the opportunity to sign the open letter can be found here.
