Digital Single Market: eco Warns Against One-Sided Interest-Driven Policy

On the strategy for a joint Digital Single Market introduced today by the EU Commission, eco Director of Policy and Law, Oliver Süme, states:

“The Digital Single Market Strategy published today by the European Commission is an enormously important step towards a strong and competitive Europe which can assert its position in the digital world market. We welcome to goal of the commission to create equal competitive and framework conditions for all providers, regardless of their size or company structure; however, we warn against a one-sided interest-driven policy. We require market diversity, equal opportunities and investment security, not market consolidation.  Decisive for the success of the Digital Single Market Strategy is an innovation-friendly liability regime. The legal foundation created in the E-Commerce Directive should remain unaltered. The accountability and liability regime formalized there is balanced and is a guarantee for the success of the Internet industry in Europe.”
