5 Questions for Mario Schröder, Thermokon Sensortechnik GmbH

Digitalisation helps to use resources according to demand and thus save energy. In an eco member interview, Mario Schröder from Thermokon Sensortechnik GmbH explains how this can be achieved.

Mr Schröder, could you please give us a brief introduction to your company, Thermokon?
Thermokon has been an expert in the development and production of forward-looking sensor solutions for 36 years. As an innovation driver with a wide range of applications, from wired sensors to IoT-enabled wireless sensors, Thermokon is constantly developing its product portfolio and offers decisive advantages through product and application-related services, individual customer solutions and engineering made in Germany.

Which digitalisation topics are particularly important to you?
The core topic is certainly the sensible and correct use of provided information. There are far more possibilities than just visualising data points. In order to fully utilise the advantages of digitalisation, it is essential to:

  • Define suitable data points for the respective application
  • Collect high-quality data points
  • Correctly interpret and link the generated data points with each other
  • Derive targeted measures / actions based on the existing data

What are the special challenges of your industry at the moment and how are you working on them?
Historically, we have been based in the building automation industry. Currently, this industry is facing several challenges, including the digitalisation of buildings, the implementation of legal requirements for energy efficiency, and the shortage of skilled workers. These are just a few of the topics that the industry has to deal with. As an innovation driver, we proactively follow requirements and trends at a very early stage, working closely with our customers to develop suitable solutions.

How do you expect your membership in the eco Association to support you in this regard?
Through membership, I expect to experience significantly better networking and increased awareness within the IoT world. By engaging in direct exchanges with these new contacts, we will gain a clearer understanding of the needs of the IoT industry. We are excited to address these needs more effectively together! With this knowledge, we can adapt our portfolio accordingly and expand our range of offerings in line with the market.

What opportunities does digitalisation offer us in the future?
Digitalisation can make applications more efficient. This leads directly to demand-oriented resource usage, the avoidance of energy waste, and significant cost savings. Through the digital twin, damages or potential failures can be detected at an early stage, helping to prevent any damage and subsequent costs through “predictive maintenance.” All in all, digitalisation offers more comfort in various areas of everyday life.

Mr Schröder, thank you very much for the interview!
