In an interview, Joelle Samake, Country Coordinator Germany of Nameshield GmbH states that brand protection and IT security are growing together, and advocates for ethical digitalisation.
Ms Samaké, could you please give us a brief introduction to your company, Nameshield GmbH ?
Nameshield is a European registrar and provider of everything related to our customers’ domains. Brands are exposed to many threats in the digital sphere – we secure clients’ domains and support them in their management (also DNS, SSL/TLS, DMARC) and protection (Online Brand Protection). Nameshield’s company shares are in the hands of its employees.
Which digitalisation topics are particularly important to you?
For us, maintaining trust and customer proximity is the top priority in digitalisation. This includes safety, reliability and high availability. The benefits of digitalisation can only be realised if the Internet is a secure channel for businesses.
What are the special challenges of your industry at the moment and how are you working on them?
Cybercrime is on the rise; accordingly, actual brand protection is increasingly growing together with the topic of IT security. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see what impact NIS2.0 and the increased notions of European digital sovereignty will have on trademark protection. Another related topic is the upcoming round for dotbrand top level domains for brand owners.
How do you expect your membership in the eco Association to support you in this regard?
We hope for many exciting encounters and new contacts from the membership. It’s best to tackle the challenges of cyber threats together!
What opportunities does digitalisation offer us in the future?
Digitalisation offers people and the industry worldwide numerous opportunities, but also poses risks and dangers. There are still many possibilities for new working models and increasing the efficiency of many processes – but the people behind them must not be ignored. If digitalisation takes ethics into account, it will improve our lives.
Mr Weiss, thank you very much for the interview.
