Dr Christian Schanes is COO for IT security and IT infrastructure systems engineering at Research Industrial Systems Engineering (RISE) GmbH. In this interview with eco, the expert in high-security systems presents RISE and discusses the numerous applications of digital technologies, as well as the potential of digitalisation.
Could you introduceyour company in two or three sentences?
Research Industrial Systems Engineering (RISE) Forschungs-, Entwicklungs- und GroĂźprojektberatung GmbH is an independent European service provider for research and development (R&D) in the field of information technology, with locations in Berlin and Vienna.
As an internationally recognised IT solution provider, RISE has established itself in particular in the fields of IT infrastructure, national ID, finance, logistics and healthcare, as well as in the development of secure software.
The company has an experienced team that has played a key role in shaping and advancing the IT industry in the areas of planning, implementation, programming, software technology and migration over the past 25 years. With over 20 years of experience, RISE is now a globally recognised and established IT service provider.
Which topics of digitalisation are particularly important to you?
As a European manufacturer and pioneer of digital technologies for the global IT world, RISE, an IT company that was spun out of the Vienna University of Technology as an R&D company over 20 years ago, can point to leading references, long-standing customer relationships, innovative technologies, mature products and in-depth know-how in industries such as health, mobility, finance, retail, administration, manufacturing, industry and IT security. This expertise makes it possible to successfully implement even demanding digitalisation projects.
RISE supports its partners in positioning themselves as reliable innovators and digital transformers, while responsibly integrating the proven processes and knowledge of traditional companies and institutions.
Successful digitalisation requires a comprehensive approach from start to finish, involving all stakeholders – leveraging the necessary innovative strength, a deep understanding and mastery of existing legacy systems.
What are the current challenges in your industry and how are you dealing with them?
We are active in numerous industries and therefore face a variety of unique challenges. In the German healthcare sector, for example, we are faced with the task of digitising the healthcare system and the telematics infrastructure (TI). RISE has been playing a leading role in the development of the TI since 2006 and has brought numerous components and services to market.
IT in all industries is faced with the challenge of implementing rapid digitisation while taking existing organisational and technical legacy systems into account. Building this bridge requires a comprehensive end-to-end understanding of processes and systems. RISE started building capacities for holistic engineering early on, to seamlessly connect modern technologies such as wearables, IoT and mobile devices with existing systems, including hosts and legacy applications, to create innovative, smart and practical use cases.
How do you expect your membership in the eco Association to support you in this?
Our goal is to support the presentation of the new requirements that industry needs to further develop the new technologies. We want to apply our many years of experience in the field of information technology and engage in a professional exchange at a high level.
In addition, eco’s political and industrial involvement is particularly valuable as it helps to increase the importance and appreciation of our industry.
What opportunities will digitalisation offer us in the future?
Digitalisation has been offering us tremendous opportunities for many years, and with its ongoing development and the growing possibilities for user interaction, this potential continues to expand. It has never been so easy to engage with users on an ongoing basis, and this dynamic will only intensify in the years to come.
Basic services such as secure identities, secure communication, highly available systems and instant access to information are already creating enormous opportunities for digitalisation. Future performance enhancements, improved user interactions and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) will further accelerate this process.
As RISE, we are ideally positioned to continue to successfully establish ourselves in the market as an innovator and solution provider for digitalisation projects.
Thank you for the interview!
