5 Questions for Bettina Schmode & Matthias Natterer, FORTYTWO-N

Continuous improvements and certifications for Critical Infrastructures (KRITIS) companies against the backdrop of legislative changes and cyberattacks. How this can be achieved is discussed by Bettina Schmode & Matthias Natterer, FORTYTWO-N, in an eco member interview.

Mrs Schmode, Mr Natterer, could you please give us a brief introduction to your company,  FORTYTWO-N?
42N AG is a family business with the motivation to combine our entrepreneurial activities within a single entity. Critical infrastructure has always been fascinating to us as it is the Achilles’ heel of our society. Whether in the public or private sector, we develop solutions for technologically complex tasks and transform critical infrastructure into secure infrastructure!

Which digitalisation topics are particularly important to you?
For us, digitalisation is more than just converting analogue to digital. We aim to increase competitiveness and showcase new business models. Transformation is our expertise. Our main focus lies on communication technology as well as secure data storage, especially within the data center environment.

What are the special challenges in your industry at the moment and how are you working on them?
Our customers are predominantly in the KRITIS world, where continuous improvement, certifications, legislative changes and cyberattacks are the main topics. Our task is to provide comprehensive consulting, raise awareness, and simultaneously design solutions. There are indeed many guidelines and recommendations provided by the BSI, so it is our responsibility to make them visible within the company and implement them with foresight.

How do you expect your membership in the eco Association to support you in this regard?
Thanks to the exchange and expertise within the eco Association, we are pleased to be actively involved in dialogue and to be able to drive forward topics in a larger circle. Additionally, the proximity to politics offers an exciting environment for us to make a difference.

What opportunities does digitalisation offer us in the future?
We see a great opportunity in processing vast amounts of data and leveraging them effectively. However, it is essential to ensure that this data is secure and to establish a well-functioning security network. Today, we can already see how value chains can be optimised through a continuous data flow. In our field, the digital twin has become a fascinating topic, and we see significant opportunities in making better predictions about buildings and conditions.

Mrs Schmode, Mr Natterer, thank you very much for the interview!
