Quantum Computing, Encryption and AI: How Will the Future of Mobility Look?
Quantum computing, artificial intelligence and connected mobility are set to reshape Europe’s digital and industrial landscape. They promise greater efficiency, innovative services and entirely new business models—but they also raise pressing questions about cybersecurity, encryption and regulatory readiness.
These challenges are particularly relevant for the automotive and mobility sectors. Connected and autonomous vehicles depend on the secure exchange of vast amounts of data between vehicles, infrastructure, manufacturers, service providers and public authorities. Vehicle-to-everything communication must remain protected throughout the long lifecycles of vehicles and mobility infrastructure.
At the same time, advances in quantum computing could undermine many of today’s established cryptographic methods. The transition to post-quantum cryptography will therefore require companies to rethink existing systems, products and supply chains—while navigating evolving requirements such as the Cyber Resilience Act, the NIS2 Directive and UNECE cybersecurity regulations for vehicles.
