- 68 percent of Germans believe in the positive economic impact of digitalization
- German companies benefit from the Internet of Things in international competition
- Companies in Germany must adapt completely to digitalization, according to survey participants
The mega-trend digitalization has a positive impact on our economy – this is the belief of the majority of Germans. 68 percent think that digitalization results in economic growth in Germany. This is the finding of a representative survey by eco – Association of the Internet Industry and the international market research institute YouGov.
With advancing digitalization, the Internet is available in more and more locations, and more and more devices at home and at work are online. This has a positive influence on companies in all sectors, Germans believe. 81 percent of survey participants agree with the statement that the Internet of Things enables the domestic manufacturing industry to remain globally competitive. A mere 8 percent do not believe this.
Digitalization indispensable in companies
The finding for companies is that they need to completely adapt to digitalization to survive the next ten years. 82 percent of the nearly 2,000 people questioned in March 2017 agree with this. “The great majority assess the economic perspectives of digitalization in Germany positively”, Harald A. Summa, CEO of the eco Association, comments. “In actual fact, digital business concepts are booming. This is reflected in our rapidly rising member numbers.”
At the beginning of 2017, the eco Association cracked the 1,000-member mark, and these members are collectively shaping the Internet of tomorrow.
The data used is based on an online survey by YouGov Deutschland GmbH, in which 2,063 people participated between 13.03.2017 and 15.03.2017. The result were weighted and are representative of the German population aged 18 years and over.
