The ICANN86 Readout, hosted by eco – Association of the Internet Industry and ICANN, brought together Internet governance stakeholders to review highlights from the ICANN86 Policy Forum in Seville. More than 1,300 participants from 124 countries and territories attended the meeting in Seville, with almost 550 joining remotely to discuss the latest developments in ICANN policy work and the Domain Name System (DNS).
Key topics included:
DNS Abuse: Discussions focused on associated-domain checks, policy implementation and ongoing efforts to strengthen DNS abuse mitigation.
Registration Data: The Supplemental Recommendations Team continued work on improving the Standardized System for Access and Disclosure (SSAD), including authentication, disclosure requests and operational requirements.
Human Rights: Stakeholders discussed integrating Human Rights Impact Assessments into policy development to balance abuse mitigation with privacy and fundamental rights.
Review Processes: The community considered proposals to modernise ICANN's review framework, strengthen accountability and improve the efficiency of future reviews.
Regional Internet Registry Governance: Work continued on updating ICP-2 to strengthen governance, accountability and operational resilience for Regional Internet Registries.
Universal Acceptance & New gTLDs: Discussions highlighted progress on multilingual Internet readiness and expanded support for applicants in the next round of new generic top-level domains.
Artificial Intelligence: Participants explored AI's growing impact on DNS operations and abuse, while emphasising the need to monitor developments before considering new policy measures.
The Readout concluded with a shared commitment to advancing ICANN's policy work through continued collaboration across the multistakeholder community.
