Quantum technology is no longer just a vision of the future, but will soon become a central driver of digital transformation. This was clearly demonstrated at our eco event ‘Quantum Technology – The Next Stage of the Digital Revolution’. eco founder and honorary president Harald Summa sums up the event and its findings:
“The presentations and contributions highlighted the amazing progress and enormous potential of the technology, but also made the existing challenges clear.
Important role for business and industry too
One of the key findings was that quantum computing and related technologies, such as quantum encryption and quantum sensing, are not only important for large companies. SMEs and start-ups also play a crucial role in the development and application of these technologies. At the same time, it became clear that demonstrating an economically relevant quantum advantage in the near future is essential to further advance the technology and ensure Germany’s global competitiveness. In contrast, while blockchain technology has shown great potential, it has often been slowed down by a rather slow pace of practical implementation and unclear economic scalability. While blockchain often relied on visionary ideas before concrete applications were clearly defined, the focus in quantum technology must now be on quickly demonstrating measurable economic advantages in areas such as logistics, materials research or cryptography. Although we are already seeing the first applications being implemented, the development of a robust ecosystem in Germany and Europe is still in its infancy. A holistic approach that combines research, industry and politics will be crucial.
As eco, we see it as our mission to actively support this development. Quantum technology will be a top priority for us, and we will continue to create a platform for exchange and collaboration in the future. By connecting all relevant stakeholders, we want to accelerate innovation in this area and sustainably strengthen Germany’s position as a quantum location.
We are convinced that quantum technology will not only fundamentally change our understanding of computer science, but will also make a significant contribution to solving real global challenges.”
