eco Elected to New EuroISPA Board

eco – Association of the Internet Industry is part of the newly elected board of EuroISPA, the largest umbrella organisation of European Internet service providers. Thomas Bihlmayer, Policy Adviser at eco, will assume the role of treasurer for the association. He complements the committee with the newly elected President Alexandra Laffitte and Vice President Innocenzo Genna. With the representatives of FFTélécoms (France), AIIP (Italy) and eco – Association of the Internet Industry (Germany), the new EuroISPA Board reflects the multinational character of the association.

eco Chair Oliver Süme, who held the office of EuroISPA President from 2012 to 2018, congratulates Thomas Bihlmayer on his new board position: “Business and politics have a joint responsibility to make the digitalisation of Europe a success story. The most important role for us as an association is, therefore, that of a strong networking platform that brings together companies from various sectors, as well as partners from politics, research and civil society, for a constructive exchange of ideas and to moderate digital debates. I am therefore particularly pleased that Thomas Bihlmayer, in his new function as a member of the board of EuroISPA in Brussels and at international level, is now even more committed to the interests of European providers.”

Thomas Bihlmayer is a lawyer and has worked as a policy adviser in eco’s EU office in Brussels since 2016. He is excited about the appointment and his new responsibilities as a EuroISPA board member: “The key competence of EuroISPA is, after all, to enable our members from all parts of Europe to be represented before political decision-makers in the EU institutions. Accordingly, it will be an exciting challenge to actively support the association in its growth and further development while working on new goals and priorities. I look forward to continuing to shape the role and influence of EuroISPA with the new board and thank all of our members for the trust they are placing in me.”

For 25 years, eco – Association of the Internet Industry has been working not only in Berlin but also in Brussels to ensure that the political interests of its member companies are heard and taken into account. eco is a founding member of EuroISPA (European Internet Service Provider Association) and has also had its own office in the European capital since 2016.

EuroISPA represents the interests of more than 2,300 European Internet service providers and, through its industry forum, counts companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook among its members. With an office in Brussels, EuroISPA is the central voice of the Internet industry on topics such as cybercrime, privacy and data security, Internet governance, e-commerce, EU telecommunications law and secure Internet use.
