Confidential Computing is a technology that aims to protect sensitive data even while it is being processed in the cloud. By isolating the data in a trusted execution environment, known as an enclave, and using encryption, it is ensured that only authorised users can access this data. Not even the cloud provider has any access to it. This means that the data is secure even if the underlying system is compromised by an attacker.
Our White Paper "Confidential Computing: Secure and Sovereign in the Cloud" presents the technological features of Confidential Computing and describes how the concept works. The focus is on the special protection that Confidential Computing offers when processing sensitive data in the cloud.
In addition, the document highlights specific fields of application for the technology and explains how it helps companies comply with regulations. Furthermore, it formulates recommendations for user companies, SaaS providers and service providers.
Benefits of Confidential Computing
Protection of sensitive data: This is particularly suitable for industries such as financial services, healthcare and public authorities that handle highly sensitive data.
Compliance: Helps companies comply with legal regulations and guidelines by providing a high level of protection for personal data.
Recommendations of the study
Confidential Computing makes it possible to process application code and data in an encrypted form within an enclave. This significantly reduces the attack surface. All the security functions required for this are implemented in the CPU.
