The goal of Gaia-X is to design a federated data infrastructure with a focus on data sovereignty and data availability, based on European standards and values, with the aim to foster innovation in Europe. In a short period of time, more than 300 companies and organisations with over 500 people have already actively participated in the design of Gaia-X. Of these, 75 percent belong to the private sector, half of which are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The federal concept creates room for self-determination, which we in Europe greatly appreciate, and provides the basis for innovations. Gaia-X will provide the highest standards of security, latency and bandwidth for data and digital services. The goal is more digital sovereignty for business, academia, government and society. This means individuals, organisations and communities will retain full control over stored and processed data and will be empowered to make independent decisions about who can access it.
