The 19th annual IGF meeting will be hosted in a hybrid format from 15 to 19 December in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. All online and onsite participants must register through the UN Accreditation System. It is required to create an account at this UN Accreditation System beforehand (if not owning one yet) and register electronically prior to the event. Technical support is available in case of issues in this process.

In 2014, the global multistakeholder meeting NETmundial took place in response to global concerns about Internet governance, triggered by revelations about widespread Internet surveillance. The conference, convened by multiple stakeholders, set out to establish a comprehensive set of Internet governance principles promoting transparency, inclusivity, and accountability in digital policy processes.

On 8 April 2024, numerous representatives of various stakeholder groups gathered at the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) to re-found the IGF-D in a hybrid format.  eco Association has been involved in the IGF-D since its foundation over 20 years ago, based on its active representation of the Internet industry.

From 21 to 26 October, Hamburg will be the centre of the Internet community: the 78th conference of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) will be held at the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH).

An expert group of the international Internet administration ICANN ensures smooth time changeover of digital devices and applications. eco’s Managing Director Alexander Rabe sees this as a proofpoint for the functioning multi-stakeholder approach in Internet governance.

The 16th annual IGF meeting will be hosted by the Government of Poland in Katowice from 6-10 December, under the overarching theme: Internet United.

The IGF-D offers the possibility to get into contact with all affected stakeholders of digitalization - research, technology, business, politics, civil society - in order to discuss the rules and foundations for steering our Internet.

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was set up as an open discussion platform of the United Nations for key legal, political, social and technical issues relating to the internet. The IGF is designed according to the “multi-stakeholder” model, meaning that all the relevant societal groups are equally involved in preparations and implementation: from governments, civil society, business, academia, international organisations and the technical community.
