The chaos is reportedly due to a security software update that has crippled numerous computers. The chaos vividly illustrates the severe consequences that disruptions to our IT systems can cause. Thus, protecting critical digital infrastructure is now more important than ever.
Norbert Pohlmann, eco Board member and IT security expert, comments: âMore and more third-party software is being used in our IT systems and infrastructures. While this can speed up digitalisation, it also increases dependency and risks, as the current example shows. For this reason, user companies must clearly identify their dependence on software suppliers and focus much more on their IT security.â
