SMART Technologies Germany GmbH, a leading provider of digital education services, has issued to the DIRECTIONS self-commitment declaration with its Lumio learning system, thereby positioning itself as a company that adheres to the highest data protection standards. As of now, SMART with Lumio are part of the public Trusted Cloud Register for self-commitments, clearly demonstrating their commitment to data protection and transparency in the education sector.
Responsibility for school data
With this voluntary self-commitment, SMART Technologies emphasises the high priority of data protection in the provision and operation of Lumio for schools and school authorities. The declaration is based on the DIRECTIONS criteria catalogue, which makes the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in everyday school life measurable and traceable.
Transparency builds trust
The DIRECTIONS project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), supports schools and educational authorities in identifying GDPR-compliant digital learning environments. The public listing in the Trusted Cloud Register facilitates comparisons between providers and builds trust among stakeholders and parents.
Greater security and quality in education
With the self-declaration for DIRECTIONS, the group of responsible providers of digital education services committed to safe and modern teaching is growing. The self-commitments are publicly accessible at the German www.sve.trusted-cloud.de. The DIRECTIONS consortium is also working on the development of a certifiable audit process based on Art. 42 GDPR, which will enable legally compliant certification for digital school software in the future.
