Following the G20 summit in Japan, a joint paper issued by the partner associations eco and i2Coalition emphasizes the importance of a new transatlantic data protection agreement:
âThere is currently a significant amount of movement taking place in the regulatory debate on transatlantic data protection, both in the US and in the EU. This is having the effect of causing great uncertainty among companies. In the context of our transatlantic dialogues on the EU-US Privacy Shield, conducted in cooperation with the i2Coalition, eco advocates the strengthening of a synchronized transatlantic solution for data protection. The EU and the USA need to move closer to arriving at a mutual data protection agreement, as part of the G20 summit and in line with its adoption of the Osaka Track. This would create long-term legal security for companies and at the same time offer effective regulation for the protection of personal data.â
