On the start of the 5G spectrum auction today, eco Board Member for Infrastructure & Networks Klaus Landefeld comments:
“It is in principle a positive signal Germany as an industry location, and and a good day for Digital Germany, that the starting gun has been fired for future-oriented digital infrastructure and innovation with the beginning of the spectrum auction. Generally, I would have hoped for a more far-sighted approach from the Federal Government with regard to competition and an economically feasible implementation for operators. Of course one can bank on maximizing revenues. But this money is then lacking in the companies for implementation. Choking supply conditions and regulatory intervention are also counterproductive, especially if their nature and scope are not even clearly defined at the start of the auction. Business needs freedom. What is needed now above all is for the expansion of 5G networks to start quickly after the auctions.”
