On the occasion of the first meeting of the German federal government’s Digital Council today, Oliver Süme, Chair of the Board of eco – Association of the Internet Industry, comments:
“In principle, we welcome the fact that the German federal government is taking up the challenges and questions of digitalization and is bringing in support and expertise from industry and research.” At the same time, however, it must also be clear that the federal government must swiftly drive forward the digitalization of the state, economy, and administration, and that concrete transformation processes must quickly pick up momentum. “The time for talking is over. The digitalization train is on the move. The German federal government must now provide long overdue answers to pressing questions about the future of Germany as a digital location,” says Süme.
Areas warranting particular attention include the rapid expansion of efficient digital infrastructures, the reform of the education system, concepts for the future of work, and major support for research and development in the field of new technologies such as AI and blockchain. An implementation strategy for the federal government’s digital projects must now be drawn up without delay.
