eco: Europe Needs a High-Performance and Secure Digital Infrastructure for a Strong Digital Single Market

Commenting on today’s digital summit of EU heads of state and government in Tallinn, eco Board Member for Policy and Law Oliver Süme states:

“A high-performance and secure digital infrastructure is the basic prerequisite for a strong European digital single market. The main objective in this context must be the rapid expansion of the European network in the form of broadband and fiber optics. Germany in particular needs to catch up in this respect, and the new federal government should adjust its expansion targets as quickly as possible to harmonize with the benchmarks of neighboring European countries such as Estonia. When it comes to IT security, only a common European approach makes sense. Given that IT and digital products know no national borders, national liability and security regulations are incongruous, both from the perspective of companies and of consumers.”
