In the current debate about possible counter-tariffs and economic policy measures, eco – Association of the Internet Industry warns of the negative consequences of a digital tax. Such a measure would not only affect international tech companies, but could also have a significant impact on the German and European digital economy. eco Chair of the Board Oliver Süme urges foresight and warns against a setback for digital progress:
“A digital tax is problematic in that it would particularly affect the German and European digital economy. I therefore see the risk that the digital transformation of the economy could stall. However, now more than ever, we need to consistently push ahead with digitalisation in order to catch up and remain competitive in the global technology and AI competition. In the discussion on counter-tariffs, we must be careful not to shoot ourselves in the foot when it comes to measures in the digital economy sector.”
