eco – Association of the Internet Industry on the German Election Result: Resolute Advancement of Digital Policy Now Required

Yesterday, Germany went to the polls. eco Chair of the Board Oliver Süme comments: “Germany is at a digital turning point. Now it is crucial to quickly form a government that is capable of taking action. The digital and economic location cannot afford any further stagnation. The Internet industry needs pragmatic approaches for implementing European regulations and, above all, legal certainty – especially regarding open questions such as the AI Act and NIS2.”

“The upcoming legislative period must be guided by the motto: Less regulation – more innovation. A clear vision for a Digital Germany 2030 should already be laid down in the coalition agreement. Similarly, clear structures and responsibilities are needed for a Ministry of Digitalisation 2.0, which, with its own budget and cross-departmental competencies, will decisively drive Germany’s digital transformation.”
