Data Theft: eco Association Warns Against Legislative Rush Jobs

In the course of the most recent data scandal concerning German politicians and celebrities, the German Federal Minister for Justice Katarina Barley has called for stricter rules for the operators of Internet platforms. On this topic, eco Association Chair Oliver Süme states:

“It is true that the Internet industry and politics must clarify the background to this incident, so that on the basis of this, appropriate security regulations can be jointly developed. However, I warn against this incident being used as an excuse for excessive, and ultimately counterproductive regulatory ideas.

I advocate for a constructive dialog, to which eco would be happy to contribute, about the responsibilities of the state, user companies, and users for improved IT security.”
