The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has issued invitations to the ICANN77 Policy Forum in Washington, D.C. Once again, eco will be there on site.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has extended an invitation to the ICANN77 Policy Forum, which will take place in the US capital from 12 to 15 June 2023. At this event, Oliver SĂĽme (eco Chair of the Board), Thomas Rickert (eco Director Names & Numbers) and Lars Steffen (eco Director International) will represent the interests of eco member companies. Interested parties can attend the hybrid conference either online or on-site at the Marriott Marquis Washington D.C.

Key topic: DNS Abuse Contract Amendments Update

Registries and registrars in a contractual relationship with ICANN are currently negotiating amendments to the contractual framework, the so-called Registrar Accreditation Agreement. The aim of these contract amendments is to make further obligations binding to prevent and effectively combat certain forms of online abuse (known as DNS Abuse). ICANN Org and the contracted parties will provide information on the current status of the talks at the event entitled “Joint Session: CPH and ICANN Abuse Amendment Negotiations”.  This will take place on Tuesday, 13 June.

On Wednesday, 14 June, two aspects to be covered by the ccNSO DNS Abuse Standing Committee will be new results arising from its work and its next activities.

Key topic: WHOIS and Data Protection Policy

The Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) members will also discuss the latest developments regarding the proposed Registration Data Consensus Policy (EPDP Phase 1) and the development of the Registration Data Request Service (formerly called WHOIS Disclosure System or “SSAD-light”) as a Proof of Concept for the EPDP Phase 2 recommendations.

As both the DNS abuse aspect and the management and provision of WHOIS data have now been incorporated into the European Union’s new NIS2 Directive via Article 28, there’s no doubt that these topics will be followed very closely throughout the industry.

For 11 June, eco and DENIC are jointly extending an invitation to the traditional German Evening. This will give the members of both hosts who are active in ICANN the opportunity to personally exchange ideas with international friends and partners.
