The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers invites you to the ICANN76 Community Forum in Cancún. The eco Association will attend the event and advocate among other things, for the protection of the DNS (Domain Name System) against abuse.
The city of Cancún in Mexico will be welcoming more than beach holidaymakers this March: The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) invites you to the ICANN76 Community Forum from 11 to 16 March 2023. The interests of eco member companies will be represented there by Thomas Rickert (eco Director Names & Numbers) and Lars Steffen (eco Director International). Interested parties can participate in the hybrid conference both online and on-site at the Cancún Center.
Focus topic: Multistakeholder Participation in Internet Governance
The plenary session will be dedicated to the topic “Looking Towards WSIS+20: How Can We Improve Multistakeholder Participation in Internet Governance?”, which will take place on Wednesday, 15 March at 15:30 UTC. The now regular “Updates on Geopolitical, Legislative, and Regulatory Developments” is also expected to attract broad interest on 14 March at 18:15 UTC.
Protection of the Domain Name System (DNS) against abuse
The security of the DNS is also the focus of this Community Forum. The contracted parties will present the current status of their discussions with ICANN: Registries of generic TLDs and registrars are currently negotiating a revision of the Registry-Registrar Agreement (RRA) to incorporate further measures against DNS abuse.
Thomas Rickert, an eco representative, will be on the podium on Saturday, 11 March from 18:15 UTC. He speaks to the geoTLD.group on the implementation of the NIS-2 Directive (NIS2 Impact on the Registration Procedure).
On 12 March, eco and DENIC jointly invite you to the traditional German Evening. This will give ICANN active members from both hosts the opportunity to meet with international friends and partners in person.
ICANN76 Readout by ICANN & eco on 28 March
For many years, eco has been involved in the ISP and Connectivity Provider Constituency (ISPCP): As a member of the GNSO Council (governing body of the Generic Names Supporting Organisation), Thomas Rickert will be involved in numerous sessions. The main topics include the work in the Small Teams on the topics of DNS Abuse and Registration Data Accuracy as well as the meetings of the ISPCP.
The full agenda for the meeting is available. In order to be able to view these in detail, registration and login are required, which is possible until 8 March 2023 for participants on site. Registration for virtual participation is open until 16 March.
All interested parties are cordially invited to ICANN76 Readout by ICANN Org & eco, which will summarise highlights and insights from the Community Forum, on 28 March, at 16:30 CEST (14:30 UTC / 10:30 EDT). Register now.
