BREXIT – Challenges for the Domain Industry?

On July, 26, 2016, the eco Names & Numbers Forum had its first remote meeting about how BREXIT is having an impact on the Domain Industry. The result of this meeting was published in the white paper "BREXIT – Challenges for the Domain Industry?".

As you already might have noticed, the EU Commission published a "notice to stakeholders" at the end of March 2018. According to this paper the United Kingdom will not be an EU member state from 30 March 2019. From this day .eu domain name holders based in the UK will not be eligible to renew their registered domains.

Additionally, the EU Commission wants EURid to revoke .eu domain names from UK based registrants to 1 January 2021 latest. Against the background that for .eu domain names registration periods for up to 10 years are possible, eco member EURid is put in a quite uncomfortable position.

To give EURid the best possible support from the eco Names & Numbers Forum community, we invite you to participate in the next remote meeting:

Wednesday, July 4, 2018: 8:00 a.m. EDT / 12:00 p.m. UTC / 2:00 p.m. CEST

Main topics:

  • First-hand information about the current status of the discussion from Giovanni Seppia, External Relations Manager at EURid
  • Formulation of a joint position on the path of the EU Commission within the eco Names & Numbers Forum
  • Mutual agreement about the next steps the eco Names & Numbers Forum will take (e.g. a joint letter to the EU Commission)

Please send an email to lars.steffen@eco.de to register for the call.

If you are unable to join at the date mentioned but are interested in participation, please contact us as well to coordinate a potential alternative call.
