Presentation and discussion of the results of the eco survey

Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) are security protocol extensions for the Domain Name System (DNS) that were developed to ensure the integrity and authenticity of DNS data. The eco E-Mail, Anti-Abuse and Names & Numbers Competence Groups have long been committed to the rapid and widespread introduction and use of DNSSEC, as the extensions offer numerous advantages, such as:

  • protection against DNS cache poisoning
  • protection against falsified DNS responses
  • prevention of Man-in-the-Middle attacks
  • increased trust and reliability on the Internet
  • enabling of further security protocols such as DANE (DNS-based Authentication of Named Entities)

In light of this, the eco Association has conducted a survey to determine which hurdles are currently still preventing companies from introducing and using DNSSEC across the board. The Competence Groups want to use this to find out how companies that are still hesitant can be helped.

We would like to discuss the results of our DNSSEC survey with our members in an interactive exchange format on 3 March 2025 (16:00-17:00). The webinar will be held in English.

DNSSEC was first introduced at the root level on 15 July 2010. However, its adoption and implementation varies greatly among EU Member States:

  • Finland: 96%
  • Czech Republic: 92%
  • Sweden: 85%
  • Denmark: 81%
  • Germany: 78%
  • Netherlands: 58%
  • Romania: 4%

Actual use of DNSSEC varies even more:

  • Finland: 8%
  • Czech Republic: 46%
  • Sweden: 29%
  • Denmark: 50%
  • Germany: 5%
  • Netherlands: 49%
  • Romania: 3%
