eco on Germany’s Application for the Organization of the Internet Governance Forum 2019

“There is evident engagement on the part of the the German federal government with regard to an international exchange on network policy issues – also beyond the end of the current legislative term – which clearly shows the international political status of a debate concerning freedom and openness in the Internet. The question of the administration of the Internet – ‘who may govern the Internet, and how?’ – is an important aspect of the federal government’s Digital Agenda and must therefore be further accelerated in the next legislative term 2017-2021, so that we can co-shape international network policy. The Internet is global and effortlessly crosses all borders: national regulatory unilateral action must therefore in future belong to the past“, says Michael Rotert, Chairman of the Board at eco.

eco – Association of the Internet Industry has long been advocating for the strengthening of the multi-stakeholder dialog on Internet Governance. “We are convinced that this model is the best variant for the development of a sustainable and widely-accepted Internet Governance system that balances the interests of the individual citizen and the interests of industry,” Rotert explains.
