eco Association on the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework

On 10 July, the EU Commission determined that the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework is in line with the requirements of European data protection. eco – Association of the Internet Industry welcomes the fact that this once again provides a basis for the legally secure exchange of personal data between the USA and the EU Member States, which also complies with European data protection rules. For years, the eco Association has been campaigning for the strengthening of a synchronised transatlantic solution for data protection.

eco’s Managing Director Alexander Rabe said:

“For the German economy, especially for many small and medium-sized enterprises, a legally secure exchange of data on an international level forms the basis of their data-driven business models. This makes the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework an important building block for a successful digital transformation and the basis for further regulations such as the EU-US e-Evidence Agreement.

Since the EU-US Privacy Shield was abolished three years ago, internationally operating companies have been put to the test. It remains to be seen whether the regulations that have been introduced will also stand up in court. I hope here that the Internet industry will not be left in a state of limbo due to renewed court proceedings lasting years. The times of total legal uncertainty, which in the worst case led to fines or transfer bans, are now hopefully finally over.”
