eco initiative aims to prevent cyber extortion
Here, eco will present its Ransomware Initiative to the trade audience, which the association recently launched with other partners. On 26 October from 3:45 p.m., the initiative founders will hold a discussion in Knowledge Forum A at the trade fair under the title of “The eco Initiative Ransomware – Someone will pay!” Joining them will be Clemens Schulz of Rohde & Schwarz, Michael Veit of Sophos Technology GmbH, and Ralf Wigand, Microsoft Deutschland GmbH – and the discussion will be moderated by Markus Schaffrin from the eco Association.
“As the war in Ukraine continues, the cyber threat situation has also worsened in Germany. In particular, companies and public authorities are suffering from so-called ransomware attacks, in which cyber criminals extort companies,” says Markus Schaffrin, eco Security Expert and Head of Member Services at the eco Association.
The digital hostage-takers penetrate company systems via phishing attacks and then threaten to steal or publish valuable data or to paralyse the systems. According to the BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security), such cybersecurity extortions are becoming the biggest IT security threat. This is confirmed by a study by the IT security company Sophos: around 67 per cent of the companies surveyed in Germany (globally 66 per cent) were affected by ransomware in 2021, compared to only 46 per cent in 2020.
Panel discussion at it-sa on secure software
On 26 October from 14:30 – 17:30, the eco Security Competence Group and all other interested trade fair guests will meet at it-sa. The meeting will highlight the requirements for secure software and the resulting challenges during software development.
The current status will be presented with the aid of expert presentations and underpinned with examples and empirical reports. The subsequent discussion will cover the challenges that arise – not only during development, but also in daily applications.
