It will be the eco Association’s 24th time participating in the ICANN75 Annual General Meeting in Malaysia from 17 to 22 September 2022. This is the annual General Meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The interests of eco member companies are represented by Oliver Süme (eco Chair of the Board), Thomas Rickert (eco Director Names & Numbers), Wolf-Ulrich Knoben (DE-CIX Advisor) and Lars Steffen (eco Director International).
Domain Name System is ICANN75 focal topic
Up to 3,000 people have attended individual ICANN Annual General Meetings in the past. Whether a comparable number will participate in Malaysia remains to be seen. Interested parties can attend the hybrid event both online and on-site at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The security of the Domain Name System (DNS) is already set as one of the focal topics. ‘Internet Fragmentation, the DNS & ICANN’ is the title of the ICANN75 Plenary Session; a title proposed by the GAC (Governmental Advisory Committee). Thomas Rickert and Lars Steffen will represent the eco initiative topDNS on site. Leading registries, registrars and hosting providers have joined forces in this initiative to strengthen the security of the DNS.
On 18 September, eco and DENIC jointly invite you to the traditional German Evening. This will give active ICANN members from both host associations the opportunity to meet with international friends and partners.
ICANN75 Readout by eco on 28 September
eco and DE-CIX have been involved in the ISPs and Connectivity Providers Constituency (ISPCP) for years, also in Malaysia. Wolf-Ulrich Knoben has been the chair of the ISPCP since 2019. His term of office expires with ICANN75.
As a member of the GNSO Council (governing body of the Generic Names Supporting Organisation), Thomas Rickert will be involved in numerous sessions. The main topics of ICANN75 Readout will be the work in the Small Teams on the topics of DNS Abuse and Registration Data Accuracy. The ICANN75 Readout by ICANN Org & eco will present highlights and insights from the 24th ICANN meeting. The Annual General Meeting will be held on 28 September, 16:00 CEST, 14:00 UTC.
