Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Joseph Biden recently announced a new agreement on legally secure data exchange between the US and the EU. We welcome the fact that, after the recent failed attempts to establish a successor agreement to the EU-US Privacy Shield, things are now starting to once again move forward, and there is obviously a serious intention on both sides of the Atlantic to reach a solution in a timely manner.
As we have also pointed out in an open letter together with 29 other associations, legal certainty in the exchange of data between the EU and the U.S. is an important basic prerequisite for many data-driven business models. This makes the planned agreement an important element for ensuring that the digital transformation really succeeds.
In addition, weâve talked to MEP Svenja Hahn about the challenges of regulating artificial intelligence and the goals of the AI Act. In The Parliamentary View, our series of interviews, Hahn also gives insights into her Digital Single Market working party group.
In this issue, you can also read a statement of eco chairman Oliver SĂŒme on the Russian War of Aggression Against Ukraine. As an internationally oriented organisation of the Internet industry, we have colleagues with direct ties, friends or relatives in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with them especially, and with all of the other victims that this war has already claimed and will continue to claim.
