IGF 2019: eco and ISOC to Work Together for a Secure and Globally Connected Internet

During the pre-conference activities for this year’s Internet Governance Forum (IGF), taking place from 25 to 29 November 2019 in the Estrel Congress Center in Berlin, eco – Association of the Internet Industry and the non-profit organization Internet Society (ISOC) have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The organizations agreed to support a multi-stakeholder approach in promoting an open Internet through joint initiatives addressing privacy, encryption, access and capacity-building.

“The Internet of tomorrow must be shaped across borders, involving all players on equal footing,” says eco Chair of the Board Oliver J. Süme. “I anticipate great added value for our numerous international members by cooperating with the Internet Society as a global organization. I am looking forward to a rich and rewarding exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experience.”

eco and the Internet Society want to achieve their common goal by means of regional and global projects and events. Among other things, workshops, roundtables, and conferences are planned, in which dialogue with politics, the Internet industry, the technical community, and the civil society will be encouraged.

“Both the Internet Society and eco share a vision of an open, globally connected, secure and trustworthy Internet for everyone and the way to make this vision a reality is through collaboration with partners such as eco,” says Rinalia Abdul Rahim, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Implementation at the Internet Society.
